I'm not sure I understand your point, but maybe I wasn't clear. I'm sure you can get higher audio fidelity with a Lightning connected pair of headphones. My point is that you don't need to remove the headphone jack to accomplish this. Why can't I use a pair of Lightning connected headphones even if my phone still has a headphone jack.

I've been called many things over this issue, such as stupid, dumb, ridiculous, idiotic, pathetic and a Luddite. I really don't think I'm a Luddite though. To me, it's a chicken and egg situation. Do you change your device and let the ecosystem catch up or do you prepare the ecosystem before changing your device. If you get higher audio fidelity from Lightning connected head phones then people would buy them and use them even if their device still had a headphone jack. Audiophiles will flock to better audio fidelity. Once these head phones are in the market and catching on then you can remove the head phone jack. As it stands now, I gain nothing by the removal of the headphone jack except for inconvenience.

I agree the adapter is meant to help bridge this gap with the ecosystem. I doubt I'll have any problems buying a phone without a headphone jack in a few years, but right now, I don't see any benefits.

There is at least one Android handset that beat Apple to the punch when
it came to removing the headphone jack, but most of the Android phones
still have a headphone jack.

IMHO, it'll be hard to tell for Apple to tell if the iPhone 7 is being
well received just because they removed the headphone jack. I'm not sure
what removing the headphone jack actually buys anyone right now. Any
improved audio fidelity you get with the Lightning connected headphones,
you would still see even if the headphone jack was still there. Sure,
you may see thinner and more waterproof phones in the future, but for
now, I don't think anyone is seeing the advantages of Apple ditching the
headphone jack except for Apple and peripheral makers.

I think if the iPhone 7 is received well, it'll be for features that
have been added and not those that have been removed.

As I have only seen one Android I do not know if the phone Jack is on

too that because Apple has removed the Jack, if well received by the
general public, it will also disappear from the Android and Windows
phones. I think fortunately or unfortunately we are a subset given drops
of accessibility and as we are now using mainstream devices we are at
the public's mercy. Doesn't make it right, just a fact, and we want
parity with our sighted counterparts, right? Kind of like the ERA. Put
women in combat when some said they should never be. Change is hard, and
I sure understand the deaf/blind problem (with my hearing deficit(, but
there are ways around the problems, inconvenient yes but not worth
waging a war over. Tell Apple accessibility or hold onto old phones or
yell here if you must, but the earphone jack is gone, and there are
much, much more important problems with Voice-over that Apple should be
addressing in my opinion.

I suspect you're right that the headphone jack is gone for good, but
it's definitely true if anyone who misses the headphone jack doesn't let
Apple know how much they miss it. There's also no reason Apple couldn't
put the headphone jack back in a future device, although like I said, I
would doubt it.

I'm also not sure how much of my regret over missing the headphone jack
is because I'm blind. I suppose I use my headphones more than my sighted
peers because I'll tend to grab them every time I just want to check the
lock screen, but I don't think it's just blind users who'll be wishing
their new phone had a headphone jack on it that they've taken for
granted on all of their electronics for years.

It also sounds like you're saying we, especially as blind consumers,
shouldn't criticize Apple for a decision they made. I'm curious, are you
just talking about Apple or all companies? Are you just talking about
blind consumers or all consumers? For how much Apple wants me to pay to
get an iPhone 7, I think I'm allowed to criticize a decision Apple made.
I for one don't think Apple is perfect, and I'm not just going to assume
that they'll never make a mistake and they always know what's best for
me. This isn't a knock on Apple, but just those who think we should just
be thankful for whatever Apple decides we as consumers and blind
consumers should be happy with.

Folks. The headphone jack is gone for good and I think we should move

that much for calling anyway. If I need power sooner, I'll buy the

It would be cool if iPhone SE with 3.5mm beats iPhone 7, 7+ hard on
the sales figures. Don’t think so, but …… Camera is too important for
sighted people.

Take care

You figured that something like this was eventually going to come out
by a mainstream company or via a kickstarter campaign.
Off putting though that you have to shell out an extra $40.00 for
something that’s not even really a mobile solution. Curious to see
what kind of battery pack designs these same companies are going to
come up with for those of us who may want or need that extra backup.
There goes another $40.00 or $80.00 or whatever on top of everything
else. That and what type of solution they’re going to come up with
for all the credit card swipers that are so ubiquitous Appel was
actually getting credit yesterday for only selling the replacement
dongles for $9.00, but I guess this shows they’re going to get their
pound of flesh one way or another.
Those dongles are probably viewed as a lost leader anyway.

Hi all, I really wish Apple had shipped this kind of product in the
box, but for those who want to upgrade and had legitimate concerns
about the lack of ability to use wired headphones and charge, here's
the solution.
