I'm very interested in getting a report from anyone regarding the new speaker and 3 microphone configuration especially compared to the 4s. I think the 4s sounds really good for a cell phone so I'm anxious to know whether the iPhone 5 is better or worse.

It would appear that the sound quality in the 5 will be better, and of course the 5GHZ 802.11N wireless could be handy for better coverage and less clutter in crowded environments. They've made some changes to the rear camera in the iPhone 5 too even though the resolution is the same, which improves images generally and particularly in low light conditions. It is also much snappier. But it's not like the upgrade from the 4 to the 4S, which gave you specific and very useful features, namely Siri, that were new to the OS but disabled in previous models. So, if you pick the iPhone 5 16 Gb which is $199 on contract if you are allegeable for full subsidy, it would cost you $199 + 250 + 36 = $485. And if you currently have a 32 Gig or 64 Gig you can add $100 or $200 respectively to the $485. For $650 ($165 more than what you would pay for an early upgrade) you could buy an unlocked iPhone 5 16 Gb. Anyhow, if you have a 4S there is very little reason to upgrade, keep in mind that on top of the upgrade price you have to get a new case or cases because it's bigger, if you have extra cables or docks you either have to get 30-Pin to 9-Pin adapters or buy new cables and docks. As far as I can tell putting iOS 6 on your 4S will give you all the new features including Panoramic photos, the new VIP email feature, the new phone features, maps with turn-by-turn guidance, the Passbook app etc. Only thing you wouldn't have is a physically larger phone, a 720P HD front camera and LTE support. Well, I guess you also don't have the A6 processor and the new touch screen which is supposed to be more precise, but let's face it, the 4S is a very fast and snappy phone.
