I was under the impression voice mails are on your carrier’s servers, after
all, I can call my iPhone, when my voice mail comes on I think I can press the
star key and access my voice mail so it must be on their servers. You might
want to give them a call.

Ari, good questions. I always do an encripted backup to iTunes, no idea where
voicemails would be stored in it.
I checked in iCloud settings; mail is off. I tried to turn it on, and it asked
about creating a free iCloud email account which I don’t need. So this setting
means nothing apparently.
Where do you turn on visual voicemail?
I should know but cannot find it. I believe it’s on, but I’m not seeing it in
settings anywhere.

Thanks.

Paul

That's strange. I've never had voicemail disappear on me, nor emails. I do make
certain to do an encrypted backup in iTunes before updating to any iOS version,
however. I would recommend doing so. Also, do you have visual voicemail
enabled, or are you using your carrier's voicemail option? I don't think using
your carrier's voicemail option would make any difference, but ever since I got
my first iPhone, I've always used the visual voicemail option, and it's worked
well for me.

Thanks,
Ari

All, I seem to remember the last time I upgraded phones 18 months ago that
email and voicemail was deleted, never to be found again.
In the last 18 months, I had two voicemails I saved and wanted to keep forever;
however, I forgot about my old ones disappearing. I couldn’t care less about
the email; the voice mail—totally different thing. Is there anything at all I
can do to retrieve them, or are they, as I suspect, permanently gone.

Thanks.
