With the feature turned on, placing focus on the topline status bar on something like time followed by a two finger swipe down will place the speech bar smack in the middle of the screen and start speech. The speech bar covers most of the screen from left to right and is about half an inch tall. It contains a number of controls and has an X in its upper right corner to exit it. Jonathan Mosen did a podcast explaining the speak screen feature a couple of years ago.
