What Richard says about downloading the voice is correct, but nonetheless if you are running iOS 10 and of course your friend would be if she has an iPhone 7 then all the voices should be there and any you haven’t downloaded will simply have a download button next to them.

You will need to find American English and double tap that, and you should see all the voices there. There have been some bugs in the past with voices not downloading, so make sure the phone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
