I have wondered about this to be honest. I got a speaker for Christmas several years ago so I'm sure it doesn't use 4.1, and maybe not even 4.0. But there is basically no lag and has pretty good sound for how small it is. You don't get the really good stereo sound, but it can fill a room. (For reference it is the Soundbrick Plus.)
