Hi I use text replacements for emojis so that I don’t have to leave the
alphabet keyboard. For example, I created a shortcut “cbm” for the Clinking
Beer Mugs emoji within keyboard settings of IOS. So, when I type the letters
“cbm” if I hit space or punctuation then “cbm” is replaced with the Clinking
beer mugs Emoji. I created a bunch of text replacements/shortcuts that I have
memorized. It saves me tons and tons of time. Also, these text replacements
are synced across your devices that use your iCloud account, including Mac. ☺️
Just be careful not to use a shortcut that is a complete word unless you want
that complete word to always be replaced by an emoji every time you type that
word. For example if you use the word sob for the shortcut to the stack of
books emoji you might not appreciate that if you actually wanted the word sob.
Also, be careful that you don’t use other abbreviations accidentally like NFL,
ACB< NFB, and so on and so forth. ☺️ As a rule of thumb for myself, I try to
stick to only 2 or 3 letters per shortcut and sometimes I do use four letters.
Do whatever is comfortable for you though. I try to use as few letters as
possible for my shortcuts/text replacements to save time, especially when using
the on screen keyboard.

Also, someone asked about switching to the emoji Keyboard while using an
external keyboard. Pressing Control plus spacebar will cycle through your iOS
keyboards. However, at that point I use the touch screen to choose an emoji.

HTH,
Christina
