Two suggestions: The volume for the speaker and headphones are two separate values. While it should be playing something through the speaker, press and hold the volume up button, and see if it turns up that volume. If, not, have you done a reset by holding the power and home buttons for about 15 seconds, then restarting your phone? If neither of these fix it, I hope somebody else figures it out.
