Chris,

You were able to set this to "Manually" in iOS 5 as well, just go to "Fetch
New Mail" and select "Manually".

What? So are you saying now in iOS 6 new mail is not downloaded
automatically? This would be so cool for me as then I can manage my mail
without even more coming to the phone.
