Don't panic. I did a total reset of my phone in the way you described,
that is, holding down the power and home buttons for several seconds. I
was able to do a reset of the phone, but during the reset process
apparently voiceover gets turned off. I hooked it up to my pc and was
able to turn vo back on again with itues.
I thought maybe I was the only one experiencing this, but sounds like
I'm not. Hopefully Apple can do something about this as it really is a
problem if you have to do a reset and you either don't have a sighted
person around or don't have access to a pc with itunes.
The one good thing is that I did not loose any data at all.
