Have you set up Hey SIRI in SIRI Settings? If SIRI does not understand your
speech this may help just a bit since setting this up involves you saying a few
specific sentences to SIRI in order to train SIRI to respond to your voice.
As for SIRI finding certain businesses by category, profession etc. that is
just as it is, I assume SIRI does not use Google for this information and since
Google is definitely the best source for that results that come from other
sources may just not be as good or it may just not find them.
I did, for example, just ask SIRI to look for hardware stores. It gave me 2 or
3 options including a rental place, but it missed Canadian Tire which has a big
tool and hardware section (it came up under department stores) and it also
missed two building supply stores which both sell lots of tools and hardware.
When I asked for building supply stores it gave me the smithers Lumber Yard
first which is definitely a good thing, but Castle Home Centre which is in a
small town about 10 Km away was not listed at all, instead a business which
does roof and other insulation was listed and also a cleaning business and a
couple of construction businesses came up.
Obviously somewhere online the cleaning business must be listed under building
supplies, but it's definitely a bit strange what sometimes is included.
When I Googled "Look for building supply stores nearby" on my computer (exact
phrase I used to ask SIRI), the first 3 results are Smithers Lumber Yard,
Smithers Home Hardware and Bulkley Valley Home Centre which is the franchise of
that Castle building supply store I mentioned earlier and those 3 are
definitely what a local would say are the top choices.
SIRI has its limitations, but it rarely has problems dialing my contacts, doing
all the various phone functions and many other things. With your contacts you
might want to look at how you have them entered. Do you set them up correctly
with first name under first name, last name under last name and all that? Do
you correctly format the phone number, the best option I sto use the
international dialing format, for example, +1 (202) 555-5555. You can just use
the 10-digit phone number with area code, but if you are calling a long
distance number or if you are away and call a number at home which then is long
distance, at best it will first tell you that this is a long distance call
before the call goes through. Here in Canada the call will go through after you
get that message, not sure if that works the same way in the US. If I put the
+1 then it's never an issue.

Regards,
Sieghardever somewhere

Subject: Making Siri work better for me

Hello everyone,

As you all likely remember, I wrote last week and said that Siri was dumb.
well, I still feel the same way, for the most part.

I know how to speak to Siri. I know to wait for the tone. I understand
how I need to speak to it.

But 1 reason I get so upset with it is, because I can ask it to call a
certain contact, and it can't do it. I say the contact just like it is,
within my contacts.

but other strange issues are when I tell it to look up polmonology
specialests in Saint Louis, and it tells me it can't find any.

Google never did this stuff to me, ever! But for more than 1 reason, I
like the iPhone better.

I did put the Google assistant on my phone. But I don't like that I just
can't say, Ok Google, and it won't come up.

So are there things I can do, to possibly make Siri work better for me?

My location is set, and the Apps I want it to work with, are set. So I
am honestly not quite sure what else to do.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri
