Hi Neil, in addition to what others have said, I prefer downcast because:
There is great playlist management, giving you the ability to customise the
podcasts that are played back to back.
Podcast speed can be set on a podcast by podcast basis and retained.
Volume can be boosted on a podcast by podcast basis and retained. I find
this really good because some podcasts are recorded at quite a low level.
Continuous play behaviour can be set on a podcast by podcast basis.
When podcasts are behind a username and password, Downcast can log in.

If you want the description of an episode, in the Apple app, you have to tap
the more info button for each and every episode, whereas Downcast speaks
this info right on the screen as you review.

And finally, you can engage with the author of Downcast on Twitter. He
listens and makes changes based on user feedback.

Not sure if the Apple podcasts app supports sharing the episodes you are
listening to on Twitter and Facebook complete with a link that actually
plays the episode, but I like this about Downcast too.

Hi Neil,

Is there a way to delete all episodes? I have not found that, but I agree
with ?Alvin, in Downcast if you mark episodes as played they are not visible
unless you tap on "Show More Episodes" or whatever it's called exactly. I
may not want to delete an episode because what happens if I want to go back
to an earlier episode to find something again. I am able to delete single
episodes in Today in iOS Podcast by doing the pass through gesture and then
swiping across them left to right similar to how you would delete songs
prior to the Action rotor, the Action rotor is not yet implemented in
Podcasts. In any case, if I have to delete one episode at a time how long am
I supposed to delete stuff, there are now 241 episodes of Today in iOS and
what if you are a new subscriber to another Podcast with hundreds of
episodes? I guess it's not that big a deal to have them all listed there,
but then again if other apps can hide them that means it can be done. Apple
claims they want to have the best Podcast app there is and it's not like
they didn't have plenty to compare it to. It's sort of like with the new
Maps, they make a big deal about a new product and then it falls way short
of what people expect and is launched with lots of problems or incomplete
features. And with Maps I can see how it would be a huge job, not exactly
the case with a Podcast app.

Regards,
Sieghard

you already can, well not hide them, but delete them.

just press the more button at the top of the podcast in question.

fence, may not yet have used Podcast from Apple.
