Mike, 

No, the FlickType keyboard has no shift keys which makes it easier to type with 
since you only have to be concerned with the location of the letter keys. If 
you are manually typing a word such as a proper name which you wish to 
capitalize, you type the first letter which will be lower case and then do a 
single finger swipe up which will capitalize it. FlickType automatically 
capitalizes the first word in a new sentence so you don't have to worry about 
that.
