I hope everyone is clear that I was simply sharing information.
I would no sooner spend that much on a color identifier, than I would several
times that for a bar code scanner.
But, since some people prefer stand-alone devices, at any ridiculous price, I
thought it was worth sharing.

On the bright side, it is less expensive than a previous color identifier that
they sold for over $700.

If I were to buy a stand alone color identifier, it would be the Rainbow II.

But, I can get close enough color and pattern descriptions from TapTapSee,
which is free.

But, it is very true that no app on the iPhone is going to be as accurate as a
stand alone device simply because of the limits of the iPhone camera.

That may be changing with the newest phones, I don't know as I am happy
sticking with my SE as long as possible which cost about what the Color Star is
priced at and it can do a lot more than tell me about colors. And, unless you
are a blind clothes designer, I am not sure you need to know a thousand
different shades.

I think I said a third the price of my iPhone - my iPhone cost a third of the
price for the color identifier.

Best regards,

Sieghard, as usual, I agree completely with you!

My first thoughts as I was reading the initial message was, “I wonder the
price?”

When I “read” that (near) $500 price-tag I almost fell out of my chair!

Now please understand everybody, I certainly appreciate the information about
this new Color Star color identifier. It’s just that I have to ask why these
items seem always to be so exorbitantly priced. I realize all about the small
market those who might buy such “blind community” products represents and
recouping R&D expenses, but I still have to ask that question.

Certainly not a device I’ll buy. That is half the price of a brand-new iPhone
or the price of a Sonos Play 5 which I would use a lot more often and given
what you can do with one or two apps I can’t see too many people shelling out
500 bucks for that. The LED colour thing is nice, but the odd time I need this
I can call somebody with Be my Eyes for free and-probably get better feedback.
With some devices like routers or the Sonos it is not necessarily only the
colour which matters but also whether the LED is a solid blue or white or if
it’s blinking fast or slow etc.
