Hi The Echo Tapp is the device that works with a battery. I bought it for the same purpose that you wanted. It has the same quality speaker as the Echo Plus. It is nice for using in the basement for work outs or outside on the deck.
You can use the echo for listening to audio books from Audible if you are a member. However, mostly you must enable skills to get some use out of the device. Once you enable some skills, you can ask Alexa for measurement conversions, deffinitions and spelling of words, and information on Wickapedia. There are also tons of games to play as well as skills for ambient sounds for relaxation. Just go through the alexa app to see which skills interest you. A list of some of the skills I use on a daily basis are, Weather sky, Jeopardy, question of the Day, trivia Talk, and Song quiz. Once you find a skill name in the alexa app that interests you, you can simply tell Alexa to enable it. Have fun with it. And, check out the accessories for smart Home that you can buy to use the echo to operate. This thing is absolutely wild, love it! I've got the app running with voiceover. So now the big question, would be great to get some feedback on what you guys use it for. I've gotten music working, works awesome, and tried adding events on the calendar and stuff. Just curious to see some of the things you guys do with it? I thought for some reason the echo plus had a batery. 1 of the things i wanted to be able to do is use it downstairs when i'm working out. I would guess i'll have to get another 1 if i wanna do that. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
