Yes, but for me having to walk to the device and having to tap it to listen
seems to take most of
the convenience out of being able to just wake it up with "Alexa" or "Echo" or
whatever wake word
you set. I recently changed the wake word from Alexa to Echo at my Echo Dot
which I keep at my
office because one of my employees is called Alex and pretty much every time I
activated the
intercom on our phone system and called "Alex" the Echo would try to interpret
what I was saying
next. It definitely seems to have problems distinguishing when you say "Alex"
instead of "Alexa".

Besides purchasing a second Echo to have downstairs, there are a couple other
options:
First, you could purchase a third party battery which makes it as mobile as
your WiFi coverage
allows.
Second, you could use an existing or purchase a bluetooth speaker, headphones,
etc. and listen
anywhere within bluetooth range of your Echo. But you can't really interact
with your Echo without
using something like the Echo remote control.
