Cheryl, One would believe that the case is supposed to be kept and retained for the purpose of keeping your EarPods in good order… For me they are a blessing, although I prefer the sound on my Bose headset, having something neat and tidy to keep my earphones within, that I can keep in a pocket without getting all tangled up is wonderful.
Coming to your point, I can successfully and pretty easily remove and replace my EarPods without difficulty. The key is remembering that the microphone and separate lead go through the middle on the second or so turn around the case… you have to put the lead without the microphone on it through first, and then place the microphone on top of that face up. Then continue to wrap the cable around the unit… Then gently place the lid over the top of that.
