Once you get into the assistive touch menu and turn it on, there are other functions you can do like reassign gestures. This is what I did as the VO double tap was for opening the menu. For me, I did the home button function and for the VO triple tap, control panel. You’ll se the option to make these changes in that same section. There are also other custom gestures you can make up and assign to different actions, but I haven’t played with that part.
I’ve also got reachability gesture turned on to bring down the screen. I still use the regular gestures, but also having this option depending on what I’m doing or holding the phone makes it a more comfortable and easier user experience. I then changed the behavior of the button so that one tap (VO double tap) would act as the home button and a double tap (VO triple tap) would be the control panel. With the long press and hold activating the menu for the rest of the assistive touch options. This for me works since I can use the XR more comfortably as a one handed device and not bother with the swipe up gesture as the home button as I find just tapping the assistive touch icon much faster. That and I'm lazy too I guess. Makes unlocking the phone quicker for me as well. My wife changed the battery on it over the summer so as a super simple internet device, it can still work. She's going to buy the replacement camera module ($12 or so) and try to fix it. We've got nothing to lose. It's already broken. We'll probably use it as a security camera or something. She's also got designs on taking it out with her to rack up more shoppkick and iBotta points by piggybacking off of her cell's personal hotspot. We're going to use that sucker for something until the wheels fall off.
