Richard, how do you update the mapquest app? Just kidding... <grin>. Anyway, I have the update now and times seem to be more realistic now. Thanks for pointing that out. When I had checked last I wasn't on the current version.

Raul,
Have you updated to the latest version?
I'm not getting any of that any longer as I pointed out in my reply to his
note yesterday.

Oh good, then I'm glad it's not just me. Just to test something I loaded a
route between Fort Wayne International Airport and Seattle Airport and it
showed that same low distance and time. I thought to myself that it was
thinking transporter time. Even then it would be too long. However,
definitely not driving or walking.

My only complaints with MapQuest are:
* The distance always says 10.9 miles.
* The time it'll take is always set to 13 minutes.
* Occasionally, the map will be a bit dated and give me directions to
a place that has since moved. I'm not sure about the paid apps, but
I've seen this with other free apps as well.

I find the first two points to be just a nuisance. I'm also pulling
those from memory.

Yes, that is one of the coolest side benefits with MapQuest.
Now, if you have it set to a Walking route and put in a destination
that is a long way off, it will ask you if you want driving directions.
Very smart.

I've also just had MapQuest ask me if I wanted walking directions
instead of driving directions when it noticed how close my destination
was.

When you have set a destination, double tap on the menu button,
double tap on directions, then double tap on Walking and finally,
double tap on get directions and you will be in a place where you
can double tap on Start Navigation.
there will also be a list button to show the directions in a list so
you can review them with VoiceOver.

I now mostly recommend Mapquest for my clients.

especially since where I live, Navigon is very confused.

Richard:

I managed to snag the app from the US app store. My interest in the
app is to see how it stacks against the various payed apps out there
of which I have most of them. I do this in the interest of my clients.

So my question is, what steps are involved in obtaining a walking
rout with turn-by-turn announcements?

Cheers.

Hi Jim,

So, did you find Mapquest for Canada yet? I just did a Google
search and the results I got seem to indicate it working in Canada.

I have not done a podcast, but if you have specific questions, I'd
be glad to help.

You can write me directly at:

[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>

With the update yesterday, you can now save favorites, do multiple
stops in one route and it can find people in your contacts...

Later,

Richard

Thanks much. I guess it's not available in the canadian app store.

Does anyone know whether or not MapQuest will work in Canada if I
could download the app?

Thanks all over the place gang.

I just searched for it on my computer in iTunes and found this:

   MapQuest
Updated Jul 30, 2012

So, I don't think they have removed it.

Thanks gang.
