I use both and one thing is both apps can have updates which means things can change. With my current versions, Lyft changed it where you specify where you are going first and then work on where you are getting picked up. Uber, is the other way. I usually check both apps and compare the price and the ETA. Since I go to many different places, some places are generally better with one or the other. As for discounts, I randomly get an email usually on Mondays from Uber giving $2, $4, 30% or 50% off for the next 10 rides during the week. Sometimes, nothing for a week. As for Lyft, I usually only get an offer to buy a monthly pass for $300 that gives up to $15 credits per ride for 30 rides. Yes, that's a value of $450, but only if you constantly have rides of over $15, but that ranges for me, so Uber usually wins in terms of discount.
