Hi Seighard,

I would try get a listen of the home pods before purchasing then., a good friend has them and I really don't like their sound. For a lot of stuff the mids are really resessed and they seem to try to do the sound bar surround sound type of thing, which is good for some kind of music but not for most of it.

In most cases when it comes to music, I prefer to listen from a sterio set-up, rather than a surround sound one. The home pod sound is pretty good, but not as good as a sonos. This is just my opinion, but if like me you love the sonos sound, the home pods are a totally different sound signature, which isn't really to my taste. Just thought I would mention it in case you want to consider checking out their sound before dropping dollars on it.

Cheers,
Brett.

I can only agree with Brett and Sandy that Sonos is absolutely the way to go.
I bought my first Sonos equipment almost 10 years ago and while for the first couple of years accessibility was a challenge this is long in the past. Around 2011 or 2012 Sonos decided accessibility was important and they haven't had a setback ever since. The only exception I guess would be the touch controls on the newer speakers like the Play 5 Gen 2, the Sonos One etc. They could have easily designed the surface on top of the speaker with a slight indentation similar to how the home button on an iPhone 8 feels since it's not really a button but a virtual button with just a slight concave area in the glass. Having said this I don't find it that hard to use the volume control on our set of One speakers in our bathroom and Kitchen, if you orient yourself on the side of the speaker and then tap on top almost half way to the back it's not that difficult to hit it and you could always mark those spots with a tactile dot. I love how Sonos embraces a multi-platform approach when it comes to virtual assistants. Currently it is only Alexa that is supported, but Google Assistant is coming soon this year and it is their aim to support all major digital assistants. I assume after Google has been added that Cortana might be next and of course SIRI will probably be a while since Apple is not about to give anybody access yet although I predict that this will change in a couple of years. The other nice thing with Sonos is that even my almost 10-year old Sonos Amps and Connects still get all software updates and while of course things like Airplay 2 support and voice assistants are limited to newer hardware they still work flawlessly. Investing in Sonos gear means you get great sounding audio, great technology but also long-term support and they don't expect you to replace your stuff every few years. One thing I do expect is that there might be a new Play 5 with built-in support for the voice assistants and that is what I am currently waiting for since I would love to have a set of Play 5 speakers for our bedroom. I still am somewhat thinking of putting a set of Apple Homepods there because from all I heard they do also sound great and they are somewhat less expensive, but I have learned it doesn't pay to do things in a hurry so I'll wait a bit longer and see what happens this year. I just got a Google Home Mini which came with a Nest Hello video doorbell I bought and I must say I am quite impressed by it, but I'll write a separate post about that.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Re: airplay2 speakers advice (maybe sonos)?

beyond what has been mentioned, few other airplay 2 speakers are
available. The new technology requires more memory than what speakers
have had in the past so it is not possible to upgrade them. Apple
missed a development cycle by releasing a final version of Airplay 2
nearly a year after it was originall announced. speaker companies
engineered designs this past fall and new products are being shown
this weekend at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. Products
will be available this summer and fall.

Brett, we have 2 Sonos Play1 speakers and a Beam, which is a sound bar in
our living room and are delighted with them. You can control them through
the app or, in the case of Play 1 and the Beam, Alexa.

They are completely accessible and it was not the sighted member of this
couple who hooked them up.

We also have our TV hooked into the speakers and it creates surround sound
for a movie. There arre touch pads on all three pieces of equipment, but I
ignore them — just be careful when you are dusting!

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a stereo pair of wireless speakers for music listening in
the living room. With airplay 2 stereo wireless is a possiblity although I
dont think airfoil supports it yet so not sure if I can use the stereo
pair within windows or mac (seeing as I really dont like itunes).

But then I thought about sonos. I read that you can make a stereo pair of
sonos speakers if you have 2 sonosses in one room from within their app.
But is that still accessible and can it be used on windows or mac also as
well as on ios?

Also I read that sonos speakers work with touchpads. How do you do that as
a blid person? Just use the ios device as volume control?

I have had some speakers in the past that were way too bassy the bowers
and wilkins zeppelin for example. I now have speakers that have a nice
balance the audioengine a5plus but they are wired and old.

The sonos speakers that are currently on my radar are the sonos play:5 mk2
and that times two. Not really interested in 2 homepods because they are
not yet available here and I think from reading descriptions that i would
not like their sound all that much.

But there are some other speakers that support airplay 2. The reason why
sonos is number one currently is that they have their own apps for which i
hope that they will work with windows and mac so that i can use them as a
stereo pair there as well without having to use itunes.

Any info and or advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Greetings, Anouk,
