Are you saying you don’t use a passcode or Touch Id or, if you have an iPhone X Face Id? Not sure if you can use 2-factor authentication if you don’t have your device protected. For the most part 2-factor authentication just means that your Apple Id is protected with a second layer of security, e.g. the first time you sign in you are sent a code you have to enter after you enter your password. You can set up devices as trusted devices and consequently you don’t have to always put in the code. You can read more here:

I just noticed that when I do an ICloud backup, my messages are not highlighted to back up. My question is exactly how does 2-factor authentication work and how will it affect my turning on and off my mini IPad and IPhone?
