You have several good options. Note, prices are approximate. Focus 40 blue from Freedom Scientific, $2,800 or their new 14 cell which I have not seen yet for about $1,300.
Humanware has their Brailliant BI series in 32 or 40 cells. 32 cells $2,600 and 40 $3,000. HIMS has the Braille Edge, which is a 40 cell for $3,000. If the BrailleNote is an Apex, it could be used as a display. Then, there is the RefreshaBraille 18 from APH, $1,700. I personally rather like the HIMS Braille Edge. Partly because it has an SD card and a mini-notepad application that allows for writing down notes without it connected to any other device. Those are really only useful if you are going to keep them on the Braille Edge as they are .brl files, at least if you want to use contracted braille. They can be set as txt files, but you can't read them on a computer unless you write them in uncontracted braille. I'm hoping they will do an update that will allow for saving the braille files as txt. I am purchasing a braille display for an elementary student. This student has excellent skills with access technology. The student will be using it with an IDevice and a Mac running OS 10 and Windows 7. JAWS is the screen reader on Windows. I want a portable display but not too small so I am looking at a 32 cell display or a 40 cell display. Please let me know your experiences. The student uses a Braillenote too. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
