This afternoon I have been receiving calls at 15 minute intervals. The calls
are a recorded synthasized female voice who calls herself Lisa, and says she
is from Apple, and that there has been a security breach that affects my
iCloud account, and of course they want you to verify personal information.
My caller ID rendered a number in the 707 area code. I don't usually do
this, but I called the number back, and was connected with the apple Store
in Santa Rosa CA. There was a recorded message saying that their phone
number is apparently being used by scammers who call people and say that
they are from Apple. The message also warns callers not to converse with
anyone and not to share any info.

I sent out a warning about a scam which I will copy below. I failed to
mention in the original message that this was on my landline and we do not
pay for talking caller ID, which if I had, the list wouldn't have been
cluttered with all the advice about not answering calls from unknown
callers; which is a very good idea if you know it is an unknown caller....
Here is the text of what I had sent:
Just received a recorded call from a person claiming to be a Kathy Jackson
wanted to refund our technical support payment from a few months ago and
gave a supposedly toll free number to call, even repeating the number:
844-640-0874. I highly suspect that calling that number would end in a
large phone bill or worse.
I have reported it to the National Do Not Call Registry. www.donotcall.gov
which is of course a United States program.
I just thought a heads up was in order.
