Hi Sieghard and All,
I am a little confused about clearing ram on my xr phone. I did several Google
searches, and I came up with the exact same results as you are showing here. I
can follow most of the steps to clear xr iPhone, until I get to the last step,
Tap on the Assistive Touch button and then press and hold on the on-screen Home
button until your iPhone flashes and returns to the Home screen. Do they mean
the on-screen Home button is the power on and off button? Am I supposed to go
back to the Accessibility page to find the Assistive Touch button, and press it
and hold it? Can someone please tell me how to work with this last step?
Thank you all!
Janet

Subject: RE: clearing memory

When I just tried it on my iPhone 8 I didn’t get the SIRI beep at all, after
the tap to power off prompt appeared I pushed down and held down on the virtual
home button and after maybe 8 or so seconds I got the lock screen with the
prompt to enter my passcode, it did not simply go back to the home screen.

Doing a Google search for “How to clear memory on the iPhone” resulted in a
lot of articles, many older and referring to phones with a mechanical home
button and apparently even the iPhone 7 which I believe had the first virtual
home button still works this way. Anyways, I also found an article from 2018
which explains how to do this on the iPhone 7 and older phones as well as the
iPhone 8 and iPhone X and, I assume XR/XS/XS Max.
I tried the method described in the article on my iPhone 8 and the result was
the same as pressing and holding down the virtual home button, I ended up on
the lock screen where I had to enter my passcode, Touch Id at that point did
not unlock my phone and focus did not return simply to the home screen. If
anybody wants to try this on the iPhone X/XR/XS, here is the text of the
article:

Speed Up iPhone: How to Clear RAM on iPhone to Make It Faster
By Conner Carey updated on 04/10/2018

How do you clear RAM on iPhone and what does clearing RAM do? Resetting RAM on
your iPhone makes it perform faster. Memory on iPhone is about how many various
activities are going on at once. Clearing RAM allows iPhone to clear out any
processing it doesn’t need to currently do. When you clear RAM on your iPhone,
nothing on the surface changes. But you will see and feel the difference when
using your iPhone. This is one of the best ways to make your iPhone faster in
just a couple short steps. You can clear RAM on any iPhone model, including the
latest iPhone 7. Here’s how to clear RAM on iPhone to make it faster.

What Does Clearing RAM Do on iPhone?
This is one of those tricks that rarely gets talked about, but if your phone is
feeling sluggish, clearing the RAM should help give it a boost. Clearing iPhone
RAM is like sweeping cobwebs from a closet—the information that’s cleared isn’t
needed so we reset RAM to free up usable memory on our iPhones. With less
information to process and filter through, your iPhone is free to run faster.

How to Clear RAM on iPhone 7 & Older iPhones
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button.
When Slide to Power off appears, let go of the Sleep/Wake Button.
Hold down your Home button.
After a few seconds, your screen will flash blank and then return to Home
screen, which means you’ve cleared your iPhone’s RAM. Some users have had
trouble with this and I’m not sure why.
If Siri comes up when you hold down the Home button, one user suggested turning
Siri off to clear RAM and then turning Siri back on when you’re done. For most
this should go smoothly and be easy to do. If your iPhone has been particularly
sluggish, you’ll feel how much faster your iPhone is instantly.

How to Clear RAM on iPhone 8 & X
First, you will need to turn on Assistive Touch. Go to Settings > General >
Accessibility > Assistive Touch and toggle Assistive Touch on.
A gray and white button will appear on the screen.
Next, return to the General page in your Settings app.
Scroll down to the bottom of the General menu and tap Shut Down.
A screen should pop up telling you to slide to power off with a Cancel button
at the bottom.
Tap on the Assistive Touch button and then press and hold on the on-screen Home
button until your iPhone flashes and returns to the Home screen.
It’s good to note that clearing RAM on your iPhone will not quit any of the
apps you had open; the app will simply reload. Everything should be as it was,
just faster.
That's all there is to it!

You want to hold the side button down for about three seconds or until it comes
up with the shutdown option. Then release it and hold down the home button. It
should take you back to your home screen.

Hi. I was just looking through my archives list and found some information
about clearing the memory. I decided to do this. I held down the screen lock
button until it said IPhone shutting down, then held down the home button on my
IPhone 7. Voice over didn’t come back, but I heard the siri beep. Should I
have held it down longer?
Thanks.
God bless!
