HI Davy,

I think I solved my own problem. I used to use an iPhone 5S and I usually kept
it in a cell phone holder that was part of a fanny pack with the speaker facing
up so that I could hear it. I now have the iPhone 8 and do the same thing.
Since this phone has 2 speakers, I decided to put it in the holder with the
sensor facing up and I noticed tonight that the notifications were speaking.
I’m learning something new every day with this phone!

HI Debbie

I can confirm this behaviour and I am still a ios12 user I knew this behaviour
was now and then taking place in the 6 years now that I am having iphones.
Sometimes it does occur sometimes not.

Write Apple accessibility about that.

HI Anna,

No, I have an iPhone 8 and don’t even use the fingerprint identification.

Thanks anyway and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Debbie,

Does your phone have Face ID? If so, there's a setting which makes the phone
respond differently in some situations if you are looking at it than if you
aren't. You may have that setting on. In Accessibility Settings, there's an
Attention feature that determines whether this is the case.

Best,

Anna

Hi,

This is kind of weird but I’ve got notifications set to speak on the lock
screen but when my phone is in my pocket, I get the notification sounder but in
order for the notification to be spoken, I have to take the phone out of my
pocket!

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, do you have any suggestions for
fixing this? Is there a setting under motion perhaps that is causing this?

Thanks!

Debbie
