I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

First the story: I have been experiencing occasional loss of speech, often
while in the car. While on a 3 hour drive yesterday that happened. We
recently purchased a car that has blluetooth connectivity. Although the
dealer set up my phone to connect, we don't use it. I had forgotten that
the reason we don't use it on my phone is because I lose speech when
connected. I was so frustrated yesterday when speech was gone again, when
all of a sudden I received a phone call, and it poped up on the dash while
my husband was driving. All this to rediscover that the bluetooth
connection was what was causing the speech loss. I did figur out that I
could use earbuds and have speech, but the minute I unplugged them it was
gone.

So, here's the question: Why do some aps ask to have bluetooth turned on?
And is it really necessary if I'm not trying to connect to my laptop or some
other device?
