OK, well, Apple made some very odd choices in iOS 13 around where it put some
settings.
Call audio routing is now under Accessibility, VoiceOver, Touch.
The last item in there is call audio routing.
It defaults to automatic.
If you double tap on it, you can choose, bluetooth, or speaker.
I have not tried this, but if the setting under audio that automatically
switches to speaker when the phone is moved away from your head, is left on,
maybe this way the call will start on speaker, then switch to earpiece when you
hold it up to your ear.

Richard

Thanks Mike and Richard. I thought I was missing something. I'm one of
those who, early on when iOS 13 appeared on the scene wound up getting it
whether I wanted it or not. I misssome things from earlier versions, and one
of those things I'm missing is the ability to change how my phone answers
calls. Frankly, I'm just not as fond of the latest version as I was with iOS
12 and all of its updates. But I'll adjust because there's no other option but
to adjust. Have a great day, everybody.

 Dwayne,
If you are using iOS 13, you won't find settings from those directions, those
are for iOS 12 and earlier.
Accessibility has its own category now, just after display and brightness.
The only setting I'm finding is under VoiceOver, Audio, where you can have it
set to auto switch to speaker phone when you move the phone away from your ear.
Or, simply put your hand over the upper half of the screen and pull it away to
simulate having held it up to your ear.
There was a setting, which I'm not finding, to have it just go to the speaker,
but then it was hard to get it off speaker phone, so this method seems to work
better.

Hi Duane,

See if these notes help, because there are 2 places for making this setting

**This is where the setting is for when the phone switches to the speaker phone

Settings / General / Accessibility / Voice Over / Audio

If you want the phone to switch to the speaker phone when you take the phone
away from your ear, have this setting turned on.

**To change the auto speakerphone settings do the following:

Open Settings / General / Accessibility, & swipe to the, Interaction Heading,
& the option to change the auto speaker phone settings are found here,
Call Audio Routing, and double tap on it to open / change options, then exit
out of settings as usual.

If I understand what you are referring to, automatic switching between
speakerphone and the earpiece, this is based on the proximity sensor. It is
designed
so that you can pull the phone away from your ear and automatically switch to
speaker, but I have always found it to be a bit overly sensitive. In iOS
10, under settings, general, accessibility, voiceover, and audio, you can
disable this feature.

Subject: a call audio routing question

Sometimes I like to route audio calls to my speaker instead of bluetooth. But
in the latest iOS version, I can't find it anymore. I've looked in audio under
VoiceOver and it's just gone. Thanks for any help you might hive me in this.
