ever since iOS 11, I have noticed that if I enable auto brightness, turning on the screen curtain will automatically dim the back light to 0%. When I turn off the screen curtain, the screen automatically brightens which makes it much easier when you have to show your screen to a sighted person, such as when using a mobile boarding pass at the airport.
