Yeah well that's an interesting question, Apple have for a few years now been trying to get seamless switching between devices through the airpods etc.
But I find that it only sometimes works, May be once a month by mistake. So it is being looked at / worked on. The idea is that your pods connect to your phone and all your other related apple products through your apple id account and then when you start say working on your watch the pods should pick that vo voice up, Then if you stop that and start on your ipad pro it should come through the pods, I've had it work a number of times,which is great but it's not constant.
