Before you do any drastic in Voice Dream Reader, you may have a variation on an
issue I have had twice now.
Suddenly, Voice Over was saying the same file name twice, when visually there
was only one.
If I deleted one, both were gone.
Somewhat accidentally, I discovered that reseting all settings resolved the
issue.
Now, this is a royal pain, because most of the settings you have customized are
back to defaults, like keyboard, Siri, wall paper, rotor, and on and on.
Since this was clearly a VoiceOver issue, since my sighted wife confirmed there
really were only one copy of each file; mucking around in Voice Dream Reader
probably isn't going to solve it.
I would just proceed with caution.

Hi all,
I meant to post this yesterday, but life got in the way. I have a strange
problem with Voice Dream Reader: as per the subject line, I have discovered
that I have multiple instances of the same folder name in my list of folders. I
do not have duplicates of the actual files in the folders, and the “all items”
list shows the right number of items in my library. I have around 15 folders,
but in my folder list there are more than 200 items – at least, there were
until I started to clean them up.
If I delete one of the duplicate folder labels, all the instances of that
folder name are removed and the files in that folder are “moved” to the “no
folder” list. I realize that these are not actual physical folders, but they
are more like the labels used in Gmail, I assume. Having all these duplicate
folder names is very inconvenient, as I discovered to my cost when I wanted to
reorder my folders alphabetically: newly created folders are placed at the
bottom of the list, and it is really tricky to move them all the way up from
position 200 to, let’s say, position 10 in the list.
I think I should be able to straighten things out by making sure my “no folder”
list is empty, deleting a folder, recreating it with the same name, selecting
the contents of the “no folder” list and moving it into the folder I just
created. However, I am really wondering whether anyone else has had a similar
problem, and what I can do in future to prevent it from happening.
A bit of background: I have iCloud Drive on my PC and I usually add items to my
Voice Dream library by placing them in the Loader subfolder of the Reader
folder in iCloud Drive. I also add items to my library using share sheets from
other apps. I happen to have two iPhones, both using VDR and syncing with
iCloud, and my gut feeling is that this could be part of the problem. I always
try to avoid having Voice Dream open on both phones at the same time, but I
cannot guarantee that this has never occurred inadvertently. I can open the
Library folder in iCloud Drive on the PC, but I would hesitate to try to edit
it without knowing exactly what I was doing, as I would really prefer not to
lose files if I can help it. My library is not very large – only about 320
items, many of which are fairly small files – so I don’t think that’s the
problem.
I will contact Voice Dream Support about this, but I thought I’d ask on here as
well, in case anyone has had a similar experience. I believe that these folder
labels must have been proliferating for a while without me even realizing it,
which I know sounds rather strange! It’s easy enough for me to check how many
folders I have by doing a three-finger single tap, but I just never thought to
do it. It certainly explains why I could only ever find new folders by starting
from the bottom of the list.
All the best and sorry for the long post,
Nicky
