It's an illegal way to remove protection from the OS and somewhat enable features that otherwise aren't currently available.

As of late, the problem has been that with some of these programs, you can only jailbreak iOS on certain devices, and it can be hard knowing which program to use for which device, if one is even available at all. But with the new unc0ver jailbreak, it will be supposably compatible with all devices on 13.5. I look forward to this, as I used to love jailbreaking back in the day.
