You have probably got your auto brightness set to on.

I have this same question. But, my brightness setting creeps down instead
of creeping up. How strange.

Subject: keeping brightness at zero to save battery
Hello iPhone listers,
In the control center, I have brightness set to zero percent except when
sighted assistance is needed. But, I've noticed lately that I have to check
brightness regularly because it doesn't always stay at zero. I check it when
I think I'm suddenly using up too much battery life. Any suggestions for why
the brightness would change without my doing anything to change it?
Peace & Blessings,
Pastor Duane L. Steele
