Hi, the below is an example of an email I sent to a dev about the Who Unfollowed me app.

Hello. I am trying out this app and so far the concept is really good. However I do have a usability problem with it. I am blind and so rely on using voice over with my iPhone. Voiceover can be enabled from the settings app of the iPhone. Then go to General., then accessibility, and then voice over. When voiceover is enabled, the gestures work a bit differently. You should probably read the documentation of the accessibility of voiceover with the iPhone.

Regarding this app, I am able to access most functions. For example, I can get to the buttons to enable the check for followers and on followers. I can get to the settings area and enable or disable the options without problems. The problem I am having is that when a list of followers or a list of other twitter usernames who may not be following me back, etc., is opened, voiceover is not speaking this information. This basically makes that entire part of this app on usable to me. If you can fix this in a future update, this would make the app 100% accessible. There are a lot of blind people who use twitter, Facebook, email, other social Apps on the iPhone and on the iPod touch. If this app is made to be accessible, it will look very good, and you will get more people that will use this app.

If there is any further information I can provide to assist with this, I am willing and able to help.

Hi Christina,

I am not aware of such a letter, but it really isn’t hard to start a
dialogue with a developer. I have done so many times and typically just
start out by explaining that I am a blind user of an iPhone 4S and that
because of Apple’s commitment to Accessibility along with the lack of
other fully accessible devices the iPhone and iDevices in general have
become the smartphone of choice in the visually impaired community. I
also usually mention Viphone which now has over 1,300 members and then I
just explain that I have installed said developer’s app and find it is
hard to use because of unlabeled buttons or whatever other Voiceover
issues there may be. If it is something that I think could benefit
others I mention that as a developer may be more interested in improving
accessibility if he can get some sales out of it.

*Subject:* Form lette to iOS developers

Hi all,

Is there some sort of form letter floating around I can slightly edit
for the situation to send to iOS developers who's apps are not
accessible? I am using the Cozi web interface for our family calendar
but the iOS app is not accessible. I have no idea how to persuade them
to consider making the app VO accessible.

Thanks so much,

Sent from Christina's iMac :)
