I agree as one who is totally blind that this is impossible. If the chat function is being used whilst voiceover is on hearing who is entering the room or leaving it, hearing notes being passed between people within the room all get in the way of me hearing the speaker and I've left meetings because of this. So, in small meetings I've managed to get others to abandon the use of the chat function because of the accessibility issue for me and potentially others. I'd also be fascinated to learn how others are able to do this. I can only presume those who can have very good hearing and can distinguish between what's being said in the background as someone else is speaking.
