Our physician is very supportive and advocated based on the fact that both
the patient and her husband are visually impaired and would have difficulty
testing using another method.
It can be done if you are a determined self advocate with a supportive
physician.

Larry, in my case, yes. The requirements were- Had to be diagnosed at least
1 year, had to test glucose levels 4 or more times per day & had to be
taking insulin. Insurance plans differ, each persons situation is different
& some peoples doctor is willing to help the patient get the needed device,
while others doctor is lazy. So obtaining a CGM is on a case by case basis.
Obtaining a CGM through state medicaid seems to be easier than private
insurances.

I know in the past insurance companies would not pay for the Freestyle
Libre unless you were using insulin. Do you all know if this is still
true?

I recently started using the Freestyle Libre 14 day system product from
Abbott. I highly recommend this product. I downloaded the Libre link app
on my iPhone. The app is easy to use. You do not need to buy the reader
unless you want a sighted person to look at your readings. I use my iPhone
to monitor all of my data.
I recently got my insurance company to purchase my sensors. I have a small
co-pay.
