Scott, Which model ipad do you have? I have the original, and I find that typing on the regular keyboard is a bit laggy between when I touch a key, vo says the letter and I raise my finger to get the letter printed on the screen. This is compared with my 4S and its faster processor. I'm just wondering how that lag might relate to speedy typing on this touch fire keyboard. Although you did say you could turn vo off. I'd want to hear clicks or something to be sure my letter presses were registering, or something.
