Researchers think so. - The Washington Post First of all there are only two types of bears here, Black Bears and Grizzly Bears. The Brown Bear used to live in Europe where it is largely extinct. Secondly it is pointless to try and run from any bear because no human alive can outrun one, over a short distance a bear can run as fast as a horse. Thirdly, no bear will ever chase me on an icy hill because both species crawl into a den around mid or late October and then sleep until early to mid April, I guess they don't like the snow and the cold either.
