The first things I tried were shutting down and restarting my iPhone and
then I tried resetting the phone. None of this made a difference. Last
night, I spent a lot of time doing some research on the Internet and trying
a number of solutions that people suggested. I finally found a post that
recommended turning off and then turning on airplane mode. I didn't hold
out much hope for this solution but I was getting a bit desperate. I have
numerous Amazon devices around the house and I didn't want to lose all the
information about these devices stored in the Alexa app. Surprisingly,
turning off and then turning on airplane mode solved the problem. I don't
know what airplane mode has to do with the Alexa app but I'm glad to have
things working again. Thanks.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on two of my phones yesterday after
updating the Amazon Shopping app. Uninstalling the app, then doing a reboot,
and then installing the app again solved the problem. And yes, I did have to
sign back into the app as well as fix its notification settings.

Hmmmmmm that is strange. Try reinstalling the app maybe? Remember that you
will have to have your Amazon sign-in info to get back in. You won't lose
any of your data on Alexa or anything if you do this. Also maybe even
before that, restart your phone? Is this the only App it is doing thi to?
