Actually, you can. When it starts playing though the ear piece, just pull the phone away from your head and the voice mail will stop. At that point if you don't have your hand over the ear speaker you can flick on the screen and find the destination button. If you tap it the message will now play through the speaker. A real pain but at least it works more or less. I wish you could make it default to speaker because that is what I prefer.

I wish Apple would bring the option back. I found that if a person was speaking quietly letting the voicemail come through the speaker made the voicemail louder. I rarely get a voicemail, but yesterday I did get one and when I tried to play it nothing would come through the speakers. I was able to read the voicemail using the transcription service, but would someone please tell me what setting I need to change to get the voicemails to come through the speakers again?
