Rob, yes, that was exactly the problem as someone else also pointed out.
Thanks much.

I think with all these devices, they need to be pretty perpendicular before
turning them over so it knows; if it's pretty flat on your lap and turn it
around, there's nothing to sense; it would need a compass to detect that.

RobH.
Worth a try.

Subject: Question for new ipad mini users

I received my Mini earlier today and of course have been stuck to it like
glue for the last couple of hours. I've noticed something strange with
regard to screen orientation detection and I'm not sure if it's a possible
defect, or it's just that way.

I'm used to the iPhone so maybe iPads are a little different. I'm finding
that the mini does not detect the proper screen orientation when simply
turning the device to either portrait or landscape mode. In order for the
orientation to be detected, I have to first turn the device, then tilt it
forward. If I don't tilt the Mini forward, it stays in the orientation it
was in previously.

Have any other Mini owners noticed anything like this? If not, I may have
to take a trip down to the Apple store and see what's up.

Also, how are Mini owners typing on the device, by using thumbs or some
other method not including Fleksy as I haven't gotten it installed yet. I'm
so used to my 4s and typing on it by just using a few fingers on my right
hand that I'm finding the Mini a little harder to get used to. I'd
appreciate any tips on this.

I do love the device however and share the opinion that others have already
expressed here on the list. The size is absolutely perfect, very easy to
hold and use. I also have the Smart Cover for it which will do for now.

Best,

Rick
