Even on an LCD phone like my 11 the screen is still black when screen curtain
is turned on because when you turn it on brightness is automatically set to 0%
so the little bit of backlighting which may exist doesn't come through at all.
I know this because my wife always tells me "your screen is black" if I want to
show her something and forget to turn off screen curtain.

I also jumped from an iPhone 7 to 13. In my instance, a 13 Mini. In the two
weeks since receiving it, I have called emergency services twice because I
pressed the side button too many times. On the second time, I double tapped and
ended the call before police answered.
Chicago police called back and wanted to know if I was okay because I had
called emergency services.

I like the ease of face ID and no issues using the phone without a home button
besides accidentally calling emergency services. Besides a bigger battery, the
OLED screen means that black or dark screens use a lot less battery power. Not
only do I have brightness set to zero, I also have my screen Curtin on so the
screen is completely black.
Sighted people are freaked out at first because they think I am using a
specialized device. With LCD screens, black is a color illuminated by the
display while with OLED, black does not turn on the small little lights on the
display whatsoever.
