I actually did the same thing until lyft offered the edit box for that
purpose.

I use the text replacement feature found under
settings/general/keyboard on the iPhone for just this purpose. When I
request a ride, I tap on the driver's name and then type a series of
letters that will expand into a note for the driver via a text
message. I have two of these notes one for home and another for when I
