The newer of an Apple watch you have the better. The workout app has the various workouts like outdoor walk, outdoor run, pool swim etc. You can usually set a workout with an "open goal" which in the case of the pool swim still would ask you how long your pool is, e.g. 25 metres or 50 metres, then it will keep track of how many laps you did, the time, calories burned etc. You can also set a goal like for example you say you want to do 20 laps or 500 meres and then it should vibrate when you are done. One thing I find too bad is that once you start a swimming workout and the waterlock engages or if you turn waterlock on manually in control centre, the watch seems quite useless for a Voiceover user. I believe a sighted person can still tap it and see some information or progress, but I was actually at the pool yesterday and I couldn't get Voiceover to really say anything once waterlock was turned on. Maybe others who use it more often for swimming can chime in if they have recommendations. I also found my watch which I believe is a series 6, really was difficult to use when it was wet or even when my fingers were wet and without waterlock turned on already. It seems the touchscreen does not react very responsively when you have wet fingers. Lastly, make sure you set the volume to 100% because in a pool setting where you typically have background noise (screaming kids, water, echo) you really have to hold the watch close to hear it and if you have the volume only at 50 or 60% which in normal quieter environments is fine, you can't hear much. I think here a set of waterproof earbuds would come in handy.

All I have is an Iphone se2. Obviously I would need an apple watch. What model could I get by with? Also, where do you find the water workouts? What kind of information do you get with the ap on your watch? Could I do it by keeping my iphone on deck and looking at it when I finish each set? Yes, you will want to activate the pool swim workout. You have to choose the yardage of your pool, and once you do that, there will be a screen that describes what happens to the touchscreen and that it is disabled. Don’t do like I did and start swimming before you click OK on the screen, because the work out will not begin and the touchscreen will not be locked. Water lock is automatically turned on when you start this workout type. I’m running a new model, so I’m not sure about how to take the water lock off. It used to be that you would turn the crown to turn the water lock off after the work out. However, I think now you just hold down the crown and water lock will be turned off once you finish the work out. Tai Tomasi, J.D., M.P.A. If so, I have a couple questions because I am going to finally get an opportunity to swim several times a week. I have the series 6, Wi-Fi model. NO Cellular.. Do I need to do anything in particular to lock the watch or anything before getting in the water? I checked out the workouts and the pool swimming looks like what I would use. Any tips from people who have done this would be appreciated. I won’t have my phone on me, of course, will that matter?
