Is this for audio or braille books? And, no I have not experienced this. Any loss of position was my own except for the time when I picked up a phone call while listening to a book, and the book continued to silently read in the background. An I have had that behavior with other audio applications but not consistently enough that I can report it to Apple. Can you give more specifics on when Bard loses the current position? Perhaps then we can set up a set of steps that consistently cause this and then there is a better chance to get it fixed. Also, I have been using IOS 17 for about a month and have not experienced this issue in that time.
