Yes, Kim, I had the same problem, just earlier this week. I was not using the sleep timer.
As I was listening to a title, the phone went to sleep, as it were. When I pressed the Play button from the Lock Screen, playback went to the start of the book. I was so upset as I had failed to place a bookmark at my current location.
