Thanks for the replies. I have a macbook pro with the silicon chip, and so I pressed the power button for about 10 seconds to turn it off. as I continue to hold down the power button, I hear a chord sound.
I am not certain when exactly the macbook is off or when to know that the options window has opened. So in short I am struggling to figure out how to get into recovery mode.
