Also, the iPhone 5 has one less layer of glass from what I read. This
was as part of the effort to make the overall phone thinner. There are
theories that the entire concept of screen protectors and cases is a way
for manufacturers to make money and phones don't really need them.
Whether it's true or not I still choose to have cases for my phones, but
I no longer subscribe to the opinion that Otterbox Defender cases are
the way to go. I still want to enjoy the thin feel of my phone. However
to each his/her own. If someone wants to go with a naked iPhone and
nothing ever happens to it, great.

Um, I’d get a protector. That screen can still be cracked quite easily.

I finally got around to upgrading to the iPhone 5. I was very impressed
with its thin design, and had considered not getting a case for it, but
after it almost slipped out of my hand twice, i thought better and got a
simple case that covers the back and sides. It does not have a screen
protector, as i have never used one. I was told that the screen is made
of Gorilla Glass, and a protector is unnecessary. The case makes it
easier to hold, but like any case, it takes away from that thinness that
is just so cool.
