They're still the way to go if you don't mind sacrificing the thin feel of the phone, in my opinion.

This was as part of the effort to make the overall phone thinner. There are theories that the entire concept of screen protectors and cases is a way for manufacturers to make money and phones don't really need them. Whether it's true or not I still choose to have cases for my phones, but I no longer subscribe to the opinion that Otterbox Defender cases are the way to go. I still want to enjoy the thin feel of my phone. However to each his/her own. If someone wants to go with a naked iPhone and nothing ever happens to it, great. -- Raul A.
