If you have a Lightning and USB-C cable side by side you can tell how the USB-C cable is noticeably wider and also slightly thicker. However, if you don't have the reference and don't have experience feeling them many times, it is difficult to tell them apart. However, as Arnold said, if you have a little bit of a finger nail, i.e. if you don't keep your finger nails super short, you can feel a slot/gap at the end of the UsB-C cable where a Lightning cable seems to be solid.

There are still many wall adapters out there which have a regular full-size USB-A port in which case you would need a cable with USB-A (large USB plug on one end and a USB-C on the other end which would plug into your iPhone.
